Bradbury Park

PlayWorks For landscape architects

This concept draws inspiration from the surrounding habitats of local lorikeets.

Brief

For this project, Brisbane City Council wanted a unique play environment unlike any other. Our design team had the pleasure of drawing inspiration from the surrounding environment to create a completely bespoke structure that has quickly become an iconic play destination.

Range

This concept draws inspiration from the surrounding habitats of local lorikeets. The ‘biological city’ is made up of a complex series of ‘hollows’ (the tower-like structures) and ‘byways’ (connecting bridges). ‘Hollows’ are everywhere within the landscape and home to local lorikeets, which is where inspiration is found for the shape, form, and name. ‘Byways’ is the road less travelled, but it also alludes to a sense of mystery the playground’s form provides.

Product

With a large number of nets, ropes and climbing elements, this playground is intentionally designed to challenge older children, helping build skills and confidence. The bespoke structure is surrounded by a series of inclusive and accessible ground-based explorative elements for younger children.
