Children’s playground equipment is our passion, since opening our doors in 1984 we have never doubted that this is what we were meant to do. Over the last 3 decades we have collaborated with many inspired teachers, playspace designers, architects, councils and children. Through it all, we have learnt that play… to any child… is an invaluable commodity. It is nature’s most powerful learning process for their mental, physical and social development.
This is why we love what we do. Play, and everything about it, is fascinating. It is about instinctual exploration, boundless imagination and wonder. Play -real play – is about spontaneity, discovery and creativity. Kids possess these qualities in abundance. They have an innate desire to play, and truth be told, so should grown-ups, especially the parent kind.
We have been monitoring child development trends over the decades. Today’s world offers so much more than what passed as entertainment 50 years ago. The massive impact of technology on media and gaming platforms has transformed the playspace of today’s children. We want all kids to have access to valuable play opportunities.

There are few pleasures in life to match the feeling of seeing the joy in the face of a child exploring a playspace for the first time. For those of us that design and build them, it is a validation and reward for all the care and effort that goes into everything we do.
Children’s play is every bit as complex as the world it is preparing them for; our challenge is to find meaningful ways to engage them with its many dimensions, to provide them with opportunities to develop their skills and understanding , and to explore and test their evolving sense of who they are and what they can do. Play is and purchasing the best playground equipment is a serious business. Achieving excellence presents great challenges, but the benefits to children, parents and the community can be enormous. We don’t mind hard work, but it’s the outcomes that inspire us.

Successful playground design and delivery requires a wide range of skills and expertise. The best outcomes are usually achieved by synergistic collaborations that go beyond the familiar. The traditional design agency model has its limitations in this field – we offer much greater flexibility: you can use The Play Works as a project partner or manufacturer, a consultant or even as just a concept developer. We can become an extension of your in-house team on the matters of play, a project leader or a traditionally retained supplier.
